More About DBT A and Getting started
What's involved in the DBT-A Programme?
The first step to joining our programme is to book an assessment. This is an opportunity for us to get to know the young person and your family, understand the needs and challenges and discuss the programme and explore treatment options and recommendations. We aim to foster commitment to make healthy changes with support and guidance, attending weekly skills groups and participating, building up skill use and working on problem solving abilities. Within one-one sessions exploring challenging areas with the therapist or skills coach. We have a family group which enables your to learn and understand the skills being taught to the young person, and to help parents and family members model and use the skills themselves.

Frequently Asked Questions About Our Adolescent DBT Course
What Would You Like To Know?
Our adolescent DBT course will start on the 26th Feb 2025. The weekly DBT sessions will run every Wednesday at 4:30pm at our clinic in Aylesbury.
Our DBT A course is available for teenagers aged between 13 to 18 inclusive. However, if the patient is slightly younger than 13, please contact us to discuss. It is possible to allow younger people into the group depending on their maturity.
We promote a minimum commitment to the 27 week DBT-A programme from both young people joining and their families. To cover the full set of skills at least once is important for effective treatment outcomes and group stability. Periodic reviews will take place to review targets and outcomes, and make sure all are happy that things are moving in the right direction. We’ll check in with the family care / giver responsible for the young person’s DBT-A treatment midway to discuss how the treatment is going. We are here throughout if and when there might be questions. We understand that on occasions the family or young person may be unable to continue their treatment with us. Speak with us and we will make any treatment end or transition as smooth and safe as possible. We appreciate as much notice as possible, we ask for a calendar months notice in our financial contract. Any concerns or questions please speak to a team member.
Offering appropriate treatment and care is at the core of our service, so whilst we always do our best to follow treatment preferences from service users, we do have a duty of care to make sure that any treatment package offered is suitable for the needs and risk of the young person. It may be recommended that they receive additional support via our service or other services, such as GP’s or other professionals. This may mean multi agency working or ensuring other professionals involved consent to the undergoing of treatment with our DBT-A service and treatment plan. Ultimately we have to be satisfied that the package of care will support the DBT Programme. If those things are not yet in place we may recommend other treatment options or providers.
We offer two different ways of paying for the course:
- Pay in full in advance
- Monthly payment instalments in advance
We work alongside professionals and other agencies to deliver therapeutic packages to young people and families, we have worked with multiple agencies including Bucks LA, CAMHS across Oxford, Buckinghamshire and North West London and Central NHS.
In addition we’ve provided services for Social Services across many areas and Schools.
Our focus is to offer patients the highest standard of treatment and care to get the best outcomes and benefit for the young person and their families.
Please contact us for referrals and further information.
Evidence is that group provides the best treatment outcome, but we will tailor the treatment package to your needs.
Definitely. Many people who come to DBT have had limited success in other therapies. This is usually because the other therapies didn’t effectively treat the skills deficits that lead to their difficulties.
